The Kennedys

My roommate and I spent all last week following along with "the Kennedys" series.  I knew a lot of the stuff that happened back then, but I learned a LOT of new thing too.  I really enjoyed watching it and getting an inside look at the lives of the Kennedys and the people surrounding them.  Even if it was a controversial series and may or may not have had all the facts straight (I have no idea), it was a great TV series and I was hooked from the first episode.

I really felt for the Kennedys and the people in the US during that time period.  I felt like I was one of them myeslf while watching.  I wasn't born until 1991, but I could picture myself as a citizen of the US in the 60s, voting for JFK, supporting him, watching him on TV, and hearing about his tragic death also.  It was all so real to me, and then I'd have to take a step back and remind myself, This was real

I watch a lot of movies and TV shows, and the fact that I was so hooked on this show like I am on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" or "Grey's Anatomy" kind of shocked me.  "The Kennedys" is a story of people's real lives!  And real events that are a part of the history of the US. That's CRAZY! It was a great experience for me.  I will never think of the Kennedys the same way again.  And I feel like I got the chance to live through that time period through this TV show, even though I wasn't even born until 30 years later.

I have a great respect for Jack, Bobby, their wives, their children, and their parents.  Jackie lost her husband, while he was sitting right next to her.  He was shot dead.  It could have been her.  Maybe she would have preferred it to have been her.  Mr. Kennedy suffered a stroke and was never the same again.  How horrible would that be if it were your father?  He couldn't speak, couldn't walk, and then his sons were both shot dead!  And Ethel!  After dealing with Bobby and Jackie after Jack's death, then Bobby was shot and killed too?  It's such a terrible thing.  I am sorry that they had to deal with that, and I'm sorry that Bobby and Jack had to die that way.  It was an eye-opening experience for me, and I loved every minute of it.

more than 8 million men and women are looking to cheat

Apparently, more than 8 million men and women are looking to cheat on their husbands, wives, fiances, and partners.  I am so shocked and it makes me so sad to have read this!  It makes me wonder if I have a chance at being happily married, which I so want to be.  Check out the link to the article below, or just take my word for it.  Cheaters are alive and well in the world, and there are over 8 million of them.  That number still makes me cringe.  And wonder if I will become one of them.  If I'll have some of the same issues in my marriage.  Or if I'll even be happy later in life.  I read somewhere recently that the Earth is moving into some other area of orbit instead of the one we've been in for the last "really long time."  I think we're moving into Neptune?  Maybe?  Anyway... It's supposed to be the time of love, and maybe we'll all successfully find our life partners and be happily married.  Maybe the divorce rate will go down.  Anything is possible if you just believe right?  Well, I hope I didn't thoroughly depress anyone, or piss them off, or anything else negative.  This article was interesting and sad and made me think a lot.  So i wrote it all down.  Enjoy!

What I learned about online K-12 programs!

I feel like I learned a LOT.  I had no idea how many online schools/websites there were!  I always thought that online classes were just through a school building and didn't realize there were so many students taking only online classes.  I was susprised at how many students take online courses because I never thought very highly of online school.  Why not just take classes at school like everyone else?  I assumed students couldn't learn as much in an online schooling environment as opposed to "real" school, but I guess I was wrong about that.  I learned that students taking online classes sometimes learn more than traditional students because they can accel faster and get farther ahead of regular students, even taking AP classes to prepare them for college.

Online school seems to be a lot bigger thing than I originally thought.  There are so many kids taking classes online and it's working for most of them.  It's helpful when families move around a lot, when kids want to have time to participate in other activities during the day and are able to take their classes at any time of the day.  Students really enjoy having their own schedule and being able to work at their own pace.  Also, online classes allow for 1-on-1 contact between students and teachers, which is great for learning.  In big schools, it's hard to get 1-on-1 time for help with teachers when there are so many other students.

I also learned about some of the teachers of online classes.  I didn't realize there were so many, or that the teachers teach in classrooms WHILE teaching online!  And they do so many other things as well!  I pictured someone who sits in their living room teaching from home, much like the students would be doing when doing their lessons.  If I were an online teacher, I guess I would want time to do other things as well.  It was shocking to me that they still taught regular classes and coached and headed student organizations WHILE teacher online courses!  Props for them!  And they had so many degrees!  That was impressive as well.

Overall, I suppose my outlook on online schooling has changed.  I still don't think it's always the best idea, but for the students who can make it work, more power to them.

Spring Break!!!

My spring break was loaded with plans, crazy mothers, and more craziness.  The only relaxation I've had is right now, and I'm blogging.  !  oh well, I guess it's something to do. My BF is grading tests for his TA class, we're watching "How I Met Your Mother", and I'm bored.  But at least TV is funny. Like this commercial!!!!

The first time my BF and I saw this, we were like "WHAT?" but then the end came, and we laughed our butts off. It's great. Anyway...

Happy St. Pat's Day!  I hope everyone wore green, otherwise I hope you all got pinched :P I'm not very Irish but I wear green anyway!  It's fun!  I'm glad to have had a mostly relaxing, uneventful day.  Basically done nothing but grocery shop and watch TV.  Tried working on the online Comp homework, but didn't get very far.  It was a great day I think.  Better luck on homework tomorrow though, right?

One more day until my BF's 21st.  Yes, I talk about him a lot, but I'm sitting right next to him, how can I not think about him?  He's pretty psyched for his bday.  I'm excited for him, but not for me.  I'm not 21, you see.  But it'll be a good day overall.  And he'll finally get his amazing gift from me!  I hope he has as much fun as he's hoping to have.

Until next time.

stupid people!

I dislike people who believe that all our new technology has made other things obsolete.  We still need to get away from society and be in tune with nature and ourselves.  There will always be a need for nature and higher levels of thinking.  The only way we achieve that is by separating ourselves from the business of life and thinking about life.

Calculators whouldn't replace our minds and neither should computers or all our other technology.  Technology is a great partner for our minds and our knowledge, but that doesn't mean we should stop thinking and learning and using our minds!  Our minds should be used and should grow all the time.

If all we ever end up doing is using the Internet, calculators, and computer programs to do our thinking for us, we will all turn into stupid people.  There are enough stupid people in this world without EVERYONE having to be stupid.  Don't be a stupid person!
